Adwoa Aboah launches 'Coping Together' project during lockdown
Model and activist Adwoa Aboah, has launched a new initiative 'Coping Together', through her online community platform, Gurls Talk.
This social project is to encourage people to stay connected and focus on their mental well-being in lockdown, through their use of art, poetry, photography and writing, as a means to express their feelings.
On Gurls Talk Instagram, Adwoa said, "These are uncertain times and I know that like me, a lot of you out there are feeling anxious and looking for ways to cope.
"To that end, and in the spirit of staying connected, Gurls Talk is launching our Coping Together initiative".
Founded in 2015, Gurls Talk came about after Adwoa recovered from a suicide attempt five years ago. Since then, she has talked openly and honestly about her struggles with mental health, bipolar disorder and addiction.
Through Gurls Talk, Adwoa Aboah has helped others escape their traumas that she has faced herself, by giving them a platform to openly connect and share their own experiences.
The Gurls Talk community has hosted live events in London, Los Angeles, New York, Mexico and Ghana. And in light of Coronavirus, events have currently been moved online, including a recent Q&A with the theme "Coping with change and adaptation".
In reference to Coping Together, Adowa added:
"It's not about being the most amazing writer in the world. It's not about being a Picasso, but it's about having that chance to really -- going back to our ethos in regards to not feeling alone -- finding stories that you can relate to, finding people that speak to you in regards to how you're feeling at this time."
