Bozoma Saint John is Netflix’s new chief marketing officer

Netflix Inc just yesterday appointed Bozoma Saint John as the streaming giant’s chief marketing officer, who will start in her new role in August, adding a high-profile Black executive to senior management.

Saint John, who has been vocal about inequality in corporate America, joins from entertainment and talent agency Endeavor where she was the head of marketing since 2018. She has also many years of experience as she previously worked at Apple Inc and Uber Technologies Inc.

The news of the appointment comes at a crucial time, as the U.S. and other worldwide companies are looking to diversify their workforce to try to diffuse the protests over the lack of diversity within their companies, saving their businesses as much as possible.

The murder of an unarmed Black man, George Floyd, at the hands of police has triggered movements of protests in the United States and many other countries against racism and police brutality, while also reigniting the debate of diversity in the world’s corporate boardrooms.

Netflix, earlier in the day, also announced it will allocate 2%, or about $100 million, of its cash holdings to financial institutions and organizations that directly support African American communities in the United States.
