Footballer Marcus Rashford awarded for community fundraising

Manchester United player Marcus Rashford has been presented with a special award for his recent community fundraising efforts.

The 22 year old, was given the special recognition award by the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester for his outstanding activity and contribution to the community.

Rashford took it upon himself during covid-19 to try and help distribute food to children who tend to rely on schools for their daily meals.

The Premier League footballer has worked alongside charity FareShare and successfully raised over £20million, to help feed vulnerable children around the UK following the closure of most schools earlier this year.

On social media, Marcus Rashford shared details of his award and dedicated it to everyone who has helped raise money in recent weeks.

"Wouldn’t normally share these types of things but this certificate is not just for me, it belongs to you all," Rashford wrote on Twitter.

He added, "2.8million children a week are receiving meals they otherwise wouldn’t have during this lockdown because of YOUR help. I couldn’t have done any of this without the help of you all and to be recognised by my city is a great feeling."
