In Rugby, Woodlands Post Office helps the community during Covid-19

Postmaster Jay has been praised for his ceaseless work efforts to help the community with his “Woodlands Post Office” located in Rugby. He made it to the finals of the Community Engagement category at the Post Office’s ‘We’re Stronger Together’ regional awards for the Midlands, an award which recognises the efforts made by postmasters across the region to keep serving their community by keeping branches open during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The great work by Woodlands postmaster Chandrakumar Sivaprakash, also known as Jay, has been highlighted by Post Office chief executive Nick Read.

Post Office area manager Alarna Williams, declared: “Woodlands Post Office has been nominated for the Community Engagement award for going above and beyond to make sure customers had access to essential goods and services during the pandemic.

"They arranged local food and shopping deliveries for the most vulnerable members of the community, shielding due to the pandemic, and promoted the service to all customers, free of charge.

“The team at Woodlands Post Office has gone out of its way to help the community during the pandemic, they are always there when needed.

"Jay has kept an eye out for the vulnerable.

"He also donated 250 face masks to the local ambulance team and this week the branch is donating to the food bank.”

Nick Read, chief executive at the Post Office, added: “I have heard many inspiring stories of postmasters going the extra mile and I have welcomed the opportunity to hear first-hand how postmasters in the Midlands have fared during the pandemic including Woodlands.

"All retailers have been affected and the Post Office was no exception.

"The next few weeks and months will be a critical period as we try and return to a sense of normality.

"Post Office branches have a vital role to play in supporting their customers and communities, as well as helping small businesses and independent retailers get back on their feet.”

What an inspiring story of valour and support we can learn from our fellow citizens!
